Using the hour glass in your business will keep you on tract.

Everyday people feel hurried in doing different tasks in their business. They get stressed and overwhelmed in things that need to be done. There seems to be a dozen things to do, a dozen problems to solve, a dozen challenges to endure. No matter how many things, or problems or challenges there are to do, they still only come in single file.

You need to think of an hour glass. An hour glass drops one piece of sand at a time. That’s the only way things can also get done, one piece at a time. Put one on your desk when your working, you can find them in the kitchen department store, a three minute egg timer works great. Just to recap on the first post. We listed four different types of companies that bring about their own demise: (1) Start-ups, technology companies (2) The master builder (3) Inventors (4) The Salesman

Let’s start with IBM the technology company.

IBM made the highest quality computers in the world. They had a team of geniuses made up of design engineers craving for quality, durability and reliable products. The company was known for reliability and durability. IBM was making lots of money and profits were pouring in.

But soon, a culture based on engineering, turned into a technocratic company. Engineers were celebrated and became the masters of the company. Other departments such as sales, marketing, and finance were overlooked or given less priority. Managers took less notice of the marketplace. Performance indicators were thrown out of the window and design standards were all what managers understood. Research for perfection, and better products was all that counted. However, this was very time-consuming and the needs of customers for more economical, more user-friendly computers were ignored. How many hours does the average employee work? Any guesses? Believe it or not, but it is just over 8 hours a day! At least according to the US consensus it is. Now, most people that I know are working 8-12 hour days, on salary. We know that employers don’t like paying overtime, so hourly paid employees work less than those on salary. I experienced that when I was on salary as an employee.

When in there do you have time to go to the park with your kids, or watch their school play or athletic events? Will you ever get to see you children walk for the first time or say “Dadda?” When is there any time for improvement? When do you find time to relax, have fun, and enjoy the things that mean the most to you? Some might say they do all those things on the weekend. Ok, good for you. So you get two days out of seven to have fun, spend time with your family, travel, improve yourself, attend events, and live your life. If you are currently doing this, you are settling! I will say it straight out. You are settling for what someone else has given you. They say I get five or more days a week and you get one or two, with a two week vacation, and you say DEAL! My opinion on this is backed up by the fact that I am actually doing it, and I am earning more in the process than I ever have in any regular job I’ve ever done. I also get more time off (at the time of writing I have taken on less work so I can watch Wimbledon!) and my life is my own.

You have a choice. You can choose to work for someone else’s dream or you can choose to guide your own life. Wouldn’t you rather spend all of your time doing something you really like doing? Of course you would. There are many people doing exactly that and they don’t have any financial worries. You can do the same thing. Being an entrepreneur is not for a select few. You don’t necessarily have to been born into an entrepreneurial family to become happy in your choices and make money at it. You also don’t have to necessarily have a degree, a trade. Or even know someone. Just don’t be afraid to believe in yourself, no matter what anyone else thinks or says about your ideas.

Some people are millionaires selling you what whatever it is they are telling you will make you a millionaire. Did I say that right. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to become a millionaire? Of course it would. But wouldn’t it also be wonderful to make what you make in your current job or even more than that just doing something you really enjoy and love to do? That would be great! Everyone, at some point or another, has come across an offer that sounds SO amazing, you can’t help but take the chance on it. Why not, it’s only $19.99/$29.99/$49.99/$199.99, right? What’s there to lose? No selling, no hard work, the “system” does everything for you, and you’ll get thousands of dollars a month or week for only a couple hours of work.

Unfortunately, these “systems” really, are nothing more than a big, fat scam. Most systems are affiliate-based, meaning you pay, they tell you to get other people signed up, and you earn when someone does. Affiliate sales, in itself, not a bad or wrong system – but for these “get rich quick” schemes, what you’re selling is a dream that can’t ever be fulfilled. Basically, these systems work by having you sell the scam, get more people into it, who then continue to sell the scam. There are a few that are less clear-cut than that – some have you go to an affiliate service, like Clickbank, and write ads for products there and earn affiliate commissions that way. Unfortunately, you can do that without buying a high-priced “system”, and that’s how they get you, by not telling you exactly what you’ll be doing and thus get your money before you realize you could have done it for free. When you work for an employer you have to work the hours set in your contract. Your paycheck, salary or wage is determined by the boss. Most people work on average some 40 hours per week. I suppose if you have a job you could even consider yourself lucky. Yet you are not happy with working for the boss or you would not be reading this article. You are seeking something better.

Naturally, most if not all of us are always looking for ways to improve our lives. If you are considering working from home, then you most likely need or want to make more money. For some its about spending more time with family. That was my choice, and hopefully the other falls into place. I also wanted to work from home because going to a work place, just didn’t appeal to me anymore. Then again, most of the things in my life at that time lost their appeal. Golfing, well, how many people do you know that work from home, that golf all day, then do the work at night, or even in the morning. Working at home has its advantages, but you still have to work.

Working abroad, or overseas, wow, that depends what kind of work you do for whether its glamorous or not. Think about the soldiers working abroad. I’m not up for that, and I thank them. But what about, someone who is a sawfiler, – thats someone who sets up saw mills- that would be cool, travelling the globe. Or what about professional sports. We have all dreamed that dream. Models, they get to travel alot, I dont know about you, but none of these working abroad things are up my alley, maybe cuz im not a pro anything, more like a washed up – never was. Seriously though, I can play sports, but not at that level, which brings me to the whole point of this article.

What is better, working at home or abroad? That one is upto you to decide, just because everyone is different. So listen to this, I worked in a shop for years, and one day decided to work from home, on my computer. I love it, wouldn’t go back for the life of me. But now I think about working abroad, maybe I would rather do that. The thing is life is always changing, so don’t get stuck in that rut of work work work, pay bills. Notice three works to one pay bills, so get out and try new things, change your career because everyone is doing it. Besides, change is usually for the better, but we dont like change.
And just incase your thinking it, I’ll say it. “Yes I can take my work from home job abroad with my laptop”
