In Dragons Den, entrepreneurs get a chance to pitch their idea to five “Dragonsâ€. The “Dragons†are already successful business people that are looking to invest their funds in return for a share of the business and future profits.
In the UK, the programme is shown on the BBC and presented by an economist – Evan Davies. I like the way he introduces the show and his chats with the entrepreneurs after their meeting with the Dragons are very entertaining. Continue reading ‘Dragons Den Makes for Compulsive Viewing’ »

Creating a successful business is about more than financial achievement; it’s more about the satisfaction of creating a service or a product. It’s about taking something that didn’t exist before and making it become reality. It’s about the sheer enjoyment of focusing on a vision and enjoying the risks and possibilities that come from creating a business through entrepreneurship. More and more Americans are leaving the corporate environment and becoming their own bosses. Some enter the realm of business ownership as a result of a downsizing, others as a result of a mid life crisis. Whatever the reason, the growth of small, privately owned business across the nation is at record levels. The bottom line is we live in a country that allows us realize our dreams, both professionally and personally, if we work hard.
Your passions will help you to create a business you understand. That’s very important – do something you appreciate – something you enjoy. Do what you know. Do what you like. Success is never a foregone conclusion, but if you do something you identify with, you’re more likely to realize positive results. Remember, an entrepreneurial attitude is just as important to a firmly established company as it is to a start-up. If you can maintain the “start-up†approach to building the business, you foster a mentality of accomplishment throughout the organization, no matter what its age or its size. But never forget – entrepreneurship is difficult. Continue reading ‘The Power of Entrepreneurship’ »

Paddling out into monster waves used to be very scary for me as a kid. I grew up on Maui and learned to surf on the north shore at a world famous surf spot called Hookipa. I can clearly remember the first time I paddled out to surf on my first surf board. A storm has just blown through the Island and the waves were huge.
When I think back to that day, I realize that I had less fear than I sometimes do today about doing risky things. Was I scared? Hell yes and for a good reason. I knew people who had drowned, gotten bitten by sharks and stung by portugese man-o-wars (Jellyfish). Continue reading ‘The Astonishing Attitude of Action’ »

One of the toughest challenges facing any designer is the web page. There are perhaps millions of pages in the World Wide Web all jostling for attention. The question that is foremost is how you as a designer can make a difference.
Study the subject being featured. Visit as many sites as possible that cover the same as well as related topics. Make a list of what works and what doesn’t. Avoid using a design that is going to be uniform with others. Unless your pages are distinctive they are not going to work. Continue reading ‘Tips For A Web Designer’ »

When building web sites, ASP and PHP are very popular languages. Here’s my opinion on whether ASP or PHP is best
ASP v. PHP
Both ASP and PHP are languages used to build Dynamic Web sites that can interact with Databases and exchange information. ASP (Active Server Pages) is from Microsoft and is used with IIS (Internet Information Server) that runs on Microsoft Servers. PHP (Personal Home Pages) is from Rasmus Lerdorf, who originally designed this parsing language which was later modified by different people. It runs on Unix and Linux servers and it also has an NT server version. Continue reading ‘A vs P anchors news’ »

Would you buy meat from a grocery store that left the bad meat in with the good meat or wasnt clean? Would you buy a car from a sales lot that had totaled automobiles on the front lot? I wouldnt and neither would you. Your website is your grocery store; your car lot. You must have an atmosphere that is pleasing to buyers. One that tells that buyer that you are not an amateur, but instead a trained, seasoned professional. Your site is a direct reflection of your product and that is why that having a well
designed website can make or break your sales. Continue reading ‘Designing A Website That Sells anchors news’ »
